There are ten senses, five vital breaths, the mind, intellect, and ego in our body — 18 in all. The Bhagavad Gita contains 700 verses. Of these, Shri Krishna speaks 574, Arjuna 84, Sanjaya 41, and Dhritarashtra 1, making a total of 700. In some copies there are 701. The Gita is the yogic teaching and the essence of the Upanishads that Shri Krishna, God incarnate, directly taught Arjuna. It is no exaggeration to say there are no other teacher-student pairs like Krishna and Arjuna in this infinite universe. Their conversation was written down verbatim by Vyasa and preserved for us. Details of the number of verses in the Ramayana’s books: Bala Kanda — 77 chapters, 2,256 verses; Ayodhya Kanda — 119 chapters, 4,415 verses; Aranya Kanda — 75 chapters, 2,732 verses; Kishkindha Kanda — 67 chapters, 2,620 verses; Sundara Kanda — 68 chapters, 3,006 verses; Yuddha Kanda — 131 chapters, 5,990 verses; Uttara Kanda — 110 chapters, 3,234 verses. The seven kandas total 647 chapters and 24,253 verses. Each verse has 32 syllables. Historians believe the Ramayana is extremely ancient, belonging to the pre‑Common Era.
